Galvanically Isolated On-Board Charger Fully Integrated With 6-Phase Traction Motor Drives

The rapid spread of electric vehicles is pushing for more and compact reliable e-axle architectures. In this scenario, the integration on-board battery charger with traction drive can be a feasible way to reduce embedded volume number components. Anyway, integrated chargers often present safety issues due absence an isolation stage. work, solution proposed integrating road equipped 6-phase motor drive. deeply within e-drive powertrain, cost respect non-integrated solutions, but still providing galvanic insulation, differently from all fully in literature. Dedicated control strategies are developed tested regulating AC grid current at unitary power factor low THD, avoid torque production or rotor movement during charging independently position. Extensive simulation results show feasibility solution, together proof-of-concept validation on commercial motor.
